Media codes - reading an image blog tasks

Your blog tasks are to be completed on your Media 1 Exam blog (exam teacher) and are as follows:

Create a new blogpost called 'Media codes - reading an image'.

1) Analyse this RBK 50 Cent advert using the media codes you learned in the lesson: Technical, Written or verbal, Symbolic or non-verbal, Narrative. Write a paragraph for each one exploring the way meanings are created using those media codes.
Technical- The camera shot of 50 cent which is a close up of a recognisable figure. The lighting is low key which can imply darkness, ominous, mystery and secrecy. The editing has a text design and composition pushing the audience to really read and understand the message they are trying to get to and spread.
Written/verbal code- The slogan is something unique and the serif font links back to traditional, old fashioned authority which links back to 50 cent.Anchorage text is written in first person perspective.brands name-recognition.
Symbolic/verbal code-Fingerprints can link to crime, the colour scheme of the monochrome- muted feels dull and lifeless, his facial expression is very serious, direct, links to his lifestyle. The Os in the text could represent a bullet hole and linking back to gang violence and how hes been shot in the past.
Narrative-The fingerprints are an enigma code and the possible bullet holes are an action code.

2) Next, analyse a print advert of your choice using the same media codes:
Technical, Written or verbal, Symbolic or non-verbal, Narrative. Make sure you add your chosen print advert using the 'Add image' button in blogger (use Google Images to find the advert first and save it to your pictures or downloads).

Technical-The lighting is centred in the middle where hulks hand is that potentially could mirror the strength of his hand and how much power it holds.
Written or verbal-We see that in the far bottom right the product they are promoting is there which is band-aids and the fact that they've made the image of the band aid  so small again reinforcing the size of hulks hand.
Symbolic/ non verbal-The veins on hulks hand represent his strength  however the message we receive is that despite how strong you are, in times of pain even the strongest people need a band aid.
Narrative-the message we receive is that despite how strong you are, in times of pain even the strongest people need a band aid.
For both adverts, remember to put media language in bold or highlight/colour it.

When writing any media analysis, always ask yourself key questions: What meanings are being created for the audience? How? Who do you think is the target audience for this product and what effect might the product have on that audience? How does it address/attract that audience? What are the deeper connotations created by the media language choices in the product and do they reflect aspects of culture, society or ideology?
The target audience may be young children as you can see hulk and band aids which remind children that getting hurt is inevitable despite your strength and it doesn't make you less than or weak as even superheroes like hulk use them.
